Last updated: 30 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use joyryder.co.za and Simply Well, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). It should be read with our Terms and Conditions.
1. Who we are
JoyRyder, trading as Simply Well, is the responsible party for your personal information. Jalene Burger is our Information Officer.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at info@joyryder.co.za.
2. What we collect
When you create an account: your name, your email address and a password. We store your password only in a scrambled (hashed) form that cannot be read back, not even by us.
When you buy or subscribe: what you bought, the amount, the date, and the reference numbers for the payment. Your card or bank details are entered on Payfast's secure page and are never seen or stored by us.
At checkout: the date and time you accepted our Terms and Conditions and Refund and Cancellation Policy, and the date and time you acknowledged that accessing digital content ends the 7-day cooling-off right. We also record the IP address and the type of browser used. We keep this as evidence if a payment is disputed.
For your 1:1 sessions: the days and times you tell us suit you, the date and time of each session, and notes Jalene makes to prepare for and follow up on your coaching.
Health information you choose to share: to tailor your coaching and fuel plan, you may tell us about injuries, conditions, pregnancy or other health matters. This is special personal information under POPIA. We only use it for your coaching, we keep it confidential, and you share it by your own choice.
While you use the video library: which workouts you have started, how far through you are, which you have completed, and which you have marked as favourites, so that you can pick up where you left off on any device.
When you contact us: your name, email address and message, whether through a form on the site or by email.
When you visit the site: like all websites, our server briefly records technical details such as your IP address, to deliver the pages to you and to protect the site against abuse.
3. Cookies and browser storage
We do not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking tools of any kind, and no third party tracks you on our site.
To keep you signed in and remember your progress, the site saves a small amount of information in your own browser's storage: your sign-in session, a copy of your account details, your watch progress and favourites, and the package you selected before checkout. This is needed for the site to work. It stays on your device and is cleared when you sign out.
4. Why we use your information
- To provide what you signed up for: your account, the video library, your 1:1 sessions, and your coaching and nutrition guidance.
- To take payment and manage your subscription, and to email you confirmations, receipts, session bookings and notices about your account.
- To answer you when you contact us.
- To keep records the law requires, such as records of payments for tax purposes.
- To protect you and us: to keep accounts secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and respond to payment disputes.
We use your health information only with your consent, and only for your coaching.
We do not send marketing emails, and we do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
5. Who we share it with
We share only what is needed, only with:
- Payfast, our payment processor, which receives your name, your email address and payment details in order to take payment. Payfast handles this under its own privacy policy.
- Our website and email hosting provider, which stores our website, database and email on our behalf.
- Video-call providers, such as Zoom or Google Meet, when we hold a 1:1 session with you.
- Authorities, where the law requires us to.
If any of these providers stores information outside South Africa, we will only use providers that protect it to the standard POPIA requires.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account, sessions, watch history and favourites: for as long as your account is open.
- Payment records (amounts, dates and references): for five years, as tax law requires.
- Checkout acceptance records: for as long as we keep the payment record they belong to.
- Contact and session requests: only for as long as needed to deal with them.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile page. When you do, we permanently delete your name, email address, password, sessions, watch history and favourites, and the IP address and browser recorded at checkout. Records of past payments (amounts, dates and references) are kept for the period tax law requires, but they are no longer linked to your name or email address.
If you have an active Simply Well Monthly subscription, please cancel it before deleting your account.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you, and receive a copy.
- Correct it. You can update your name, email address and password on your profile page at any time.
- Ask us to delete it, which you can do yourself from your profile page.
- Object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent to our use of your health information.
- Complain to the Information Regulator if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information: inforegulator.org.za.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@joyryder.co.za. We will respond within 30 days.
9. How we protect it
The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS) throughout. Passwords are stored in hashed form. Payment card details never reach us. Access to members' details is limited to Jalene and the people who maintain the site for us, and our videos and account pages are available only to signed-in members.
10. Children
Simply Well is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a change that materially affects how we use your information, we will let members know by email.
